OJ: The SpitKicker Interview

Me and m'man Fizz of SpitKicker.com--the home-away-from-home for De La Soul, Dave Chappelle, M.O.P, A Tribe Called Quest, and others-- sat down online and chopped it up about Mhorlocks, The Blackbird, and the past, present, and future of hip-hop. Click here to see how it all went down at blog.myspace.com/spitkicker... I'll be making a print version for the press collection for future reference. Go leave a comment if you dig what you've read, or even if you didn't!

Black Man, Keep Ya Guard Up... The War's At Home.

If you haven’t heard the “50-Shot” news story, in which an innocent man was brutally killed in a flurry of plainclothes police gunshots mere hours before his wedding, you need to turn on a TV centered on Jamaica, Queens. I have a DJ friend whose father is a police officer down south. Upon hearing the case and word through the law enforcement grapevine, he came up to New York and stopped his son from spinning at a local lounge, offering to pay him whatever his fee was NOT to perform that night.

The reason? The NYPD is so angry at the way they botched up this case, they’re out in the streets canvassing lounges, profiling and targeting any young-looking Black man they can catch up to, while they look for this non-existent “4th person” they say would help to make their story somehow legitimate.

I’m passing the warning to you. Any Black men you know that think about going to a lounge, club, strip joint… tell those dudes to STAY AWAY from these spots, for their own safety. Black men are officially under fire, and we don’t need any more of our own assassinated.

See you, Space Cowboys.

Yo Son... What about dem POLLS, Son?

Bust it...

Facts are facts... if you don't vote, you can't say shit about how life is doin' you wrong... because you've done nothing about it. Make sense? Thought it might.

Republican, Democrat, Independent... yeah I know... they're crooks with categories. So... fuck that. Pick out the people that actually mean something for you and all the other people strugglin' to make it in this life without resortin' to crime and violence. Figure how you stand on the issues, find out how THEY stand on the issues, then handle that voting machine.

One good place to go to know who's who and what's what... www.dontvote.com. So far, they've been well recommended to get that Knowledge is Power shit you need.

So... let's get it crackin', Space Cowboys.

Quest of the Renaissance Man

So... it's been a while.

I've been workin' like a raw animal for my everyday work, and finally unlocking an extra percentage of my brain to unleash some more production and lyrical power towards the new album, which will be out... when it's f--kin' ready. LOL. I'll at least say that the new CD will definitely have a bit of the old and a good deal of the new... and we'll leave it at that for now.

I started with a personal trainer tonight... decided it was time to discipline myself into gaining some lean muscle mass and boosting my power, speed, and endurance... in case the haters come. LOL... just kidding.I think.

That trainer whupped my Yardie ASS with the first workout. As I type, I can't really lift my arms, I'm just laying my wrists on the desk and typing my loosely moving my fingers.

This is gonna be fun.

See you, Space Cowboy.

The Inspiration Process

I haven't been writing much lately... there's just been a lot to do--my IT work, redesigning omegajohnson.com, planning the new nunayufake.com, work for clients, trying to be there for family--that I haven't been able to sit down to really try and pan out music for the several projects I have jumbled in this brain of mine. I actually sat down tonight... well, this morning... to work on a track called "Want Me Too". I just wanted to at least hammer down the hook and drum track, then I'll use this to let the bassline and other instruments flow out. The process is never all that easy when you do so many other levels of business, because you're always distracted by so many other things. Best thing I've been able to do is try and record the emotions from my experiences and work them into the songs I create. I've still got a lot more I need to work on, including what may turn into an all-reggae set, but I want to be sure I'm nothing like my fam Bush Babees, because those are dudes that shine all their own and I want my inspiration from different things. I still hope to get some work done with them real soon though.

Aiight y'all, until next time... see you, Space Cowboy.

Rebirth!

So, I decided in the endgame that I wanted to make sure we were fully ready for relaunch by today, a lil birthday gift to that geeked out side of me, who wanted to see OJ decently back on the web in a good amount of time. There were a few features I wanted to make sure were here, that you might like, might not. Lemme break it down for ya...

  1. Thanks to a new and hot lil' service called Meebo, visitors now have the opportunity to chat with me directly. What better way to get info than from the MC's mouth? Check it out in my Contact section.
  2. There's actually a shot for you to catch my CD, The Blackbird, in your local store, and you can find out how under the Buy Music submenu!
  3. Speaking of getting the CD, you now have the option of buying the CD direct from the Mhorlocks unit here, on top of all the other outlets such as my peoples at CD Baby.

I'm still working to complete my discography, since right now it only shows my recordings that have actual covers (ha!) but I think it's been a good change overall and now I can sleep at night and rest up to get crackin' on some more music... so STAY F#$KIN' TUNED!!!

Blackbird Boomerang

So I sat back the other day... in-between just straight hustlin' everything I could think of... and decided to take a look at my artist site for omegajohnson.com. Anyone that knows me, knows that I'm a picky bastard in general, but I'm nice about it when dealing with most people....

Okay... when dealing with some people.

Anyway, the one thing I'd heard about the parent company site, nunayufake.com, is that it looks great, but busy. Normally, I'd just think "Well shit... I AM a real busy dude..."... but I paused for a minute and realized that, yeah, I put a lot into both the OJ and Nunayufake sites. Even after all I put in, it felt like I was intentially spitting in the face of the mainstream artist in my design alone--which I do, sometimes--but didn't mean to (this time).

So here we are again. The Megadeuce against The Universe, but with a hopefully more palatable twist. Stay tuned for more adventures of the Megaman to continue right here at the new omegajohnson.com. If everything goes as I plan, there could be a lot of good things down the road.
