(I'm goin' hyper-political in this entry. I promise I'm going to have a decent mix of topics and personalities here in times to come.)
It's been 90 full days since the Inauguration of Preseident Barack Obama. I happen to favor the man, not based on race, but based on the fact that he hit the ground running neck deep into a storm of issues mounted up over the past decade, and has been putting forth an honorable fight. He's sought to act against the greed and corruption made blatant by the current recession, shown the tenacity of the US military in dealing with the Somali pirate hostage situation,, and, in his talks with Latin nations, has sought to find proper, common ground with countries with which we have had shaky relations at best. I believe that proposing talks with Cuba shows that we're of a better stock than we once were. That we're able to work through what can only be described as a childish grudge against a country that has done far less snubbery to us in recent years than China, North Korea, and other countries--countries that we still play nice with, mind you, in comparison.
All this is to say, it makes me wonder why this faction of conservatives is so hard-pressed to oppose the president elected fairly by the people. Granted, they have peoven themselves to be among America's Most Ignorant--hosting incredulous "tea parties" (which, by the way, have no significance in comparison to the original Boston Tea Party) against the taxation of the wealthy; uproarious angst at attempting to be peaceful with Venezuelan leader Hugo Chavez, another people-elected official who had as many disagreements with the former administration as many Americans held; and let's not leave out the incendiary, un-American, and borderline (me-being-kind) commentary by many of the Conservative media vanguard such as Rush Limbaugh, Bill O'Reilly, and others who just happen to be the same wealthy eligble for a tax increase--but what's the real use in going so hardcore against our current administration? I mean, really?
Is it that difficult to accept that, just maybe, the poor and working class have suffered enough? That perhaps it is time we start increasing our number of allies in the world, as opposed to being the constant target of Global Hatred? Is this country that pompous that we would rather dwell in a sinkhole of debt and despair rather than be reasonable? (I know the answer is 'yes', but humor me.)
I guess I'm just weary of the hypocrisy and 'Good Old Boys Network' mentality that constantly represents the American image. We've finally earned ourselves the chance to show the world that we're a Superpower that's different from the Nazis. Yeah, I said it... The America of years gone by has been quite similar to the arrogance of Hitler's Nazi party. The administration prior to Obama's fledgling term had maintained the persona of one that could care less what its constituents, much less the world, would think of the way it operates. It's an old mentality that needed an upgrade in the worst way.
I'll cut myself short here, there's a lot of work to be done, but I'll say this. For those who don't like what a President of color or inclusion is doing... maybe you should have done better.
See you, Space Cowboy.
